For most of us, our days are filled with a series of interactions with other people and things from the time we wake up until the time we go to sleep. What is our relationship to people and things outside of us? Do we think we know everything there is to know, or are we looking to discover something new?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxBend, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxBend event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
Since our first event in 2015, TEDxBoise has been committed to showcasing the vast talent and intellect that exists in the Treasure Valley, sharing our speakers’ “ideas worth spreading” throughout our community and the world. Talks from our events have garnered more than five million views and some have been translated into languages such Spanish, Arabic, Polish and Portuguese. Our event is staffed by a large group of fun, hardworking volunteers. As a non-profit organization, we rely on the sponsorship of our partners and the intelligent, community-minded folks, like you, who invest in the program by purchasing a ticket to participate in person.
Beyond Hello is an invitation for all of us to learn the art of looking with fresh eyes – to open into the space that lives beyond the surface of daily life. Perhaps it’s as simple as truly appreciating a stranger who pauses to hold a door for you, the particular way your partner makes you coffee in the morning, or observing how the leaves in that old tree in your backyard flutter in the breeze.
Whatever it is, when we look for something new we are almost guaranteed to find it. What will you discover today that is new in someone else, and in yourself?
