Special Details About This Meeting/Audience:
The Fairfax Genealogical Society (FxGS) is now accepting speaker proposals for its 2019-20 programs.
Beginning 15 November 2018 the Fairfax Genealogical Society will be accepting speaker proposals for its 2019-20 programs. Proposals are being sought for monthly general meetings September 2019 through May 2020, monthly education classes September 2019 through May 2020, a one-day fair to be held 26 October 2019, and a two-day conference to be held 3-4 April 2020. All events are held in Fairfax County, which is in northern Virginia, just west of Washington, D.C.
The Society is always looking for new and exciting topics that span the range of genealogy and family history research. Topics may include any facet of genealogical research. Subjects should draw on the lecturer’s areas of expertise, yet be broad enough to appeal to a general audience. The deadline for submitting a proposal for any of these events is 1 March 2019.
Topics may include any genealogical subject such as court records, ethnic research, military records, methodology, migration, writing, colonial research, problem solving, or beginning, intermediate, or advanced research. No preference is given to topics related to Virginia since many attendees are non-natives; however, Virginia topics are certainly welcome.
Presenters will receive an honorarium of $150 for one-hour presentations at the monthly general meeting programs, $225 for a one and a half hour presentation at the monthly education programs, $450 for three one-hour presentations at the fall fair, and $600 for four one-hour presentations at the spring conference. Travel, per diem, board, and other expenses are not provided and are the responsibility of the speaker.
For the September 2019 – May 2020 program year, monthly general meetings will generally be at the Dunn Loring Fire Department Hall, Dunn Loring, Virginia (Washington DC Metro area), on the fourth Friday of every month from September to May, excluding December. The November 2019 and May 2020 meetings are held on the third Friday due to holiday schedules. For 2019-2020, General Meetings will be held on the following dates: 27 September 2019, 25 October 2019, 15 November 2019, 24 January 2020, 28 February 2020, 27 March 2020, 24 April 2020 and 15 May 2020.
